is interesting. The actual hurricane force winds as of this morning were only in a 30 mile diameter from the center. Everything else was tropical storm strength winds. That makes for an extremely powerful, although relatively tiny hurricane zone. That's what 5's look like though. It's a dilema. As is weakens the bad area is likely to spread out more, making it a wider cat-3 or so. So what's better? A strong tight small 5, with more devastation in a smaller area, or a wider less devastating storm, but covering a greater area? Either way they say it will be right over my house by Saturday. ![]() ![]() Anyone have a full time job for me near Kennesaw? ![]() Craig L. |

How are ya at part time tonewood harvesting? We just don't get those types of events in my neck of the woods. Just keep your head down Craig and I hope that it stays as a tight 5 but about 60 miles out to sea! |

I'm getting tired of them too, Craig. Mind the ice storms around Atlanta, though. I did without power for 8 days following one about 25 years ago. Andrew was a strong, small Cat 5. The really bad part was only about 10 miles wide across Miami. Here's the most useful tracking info I've found: http://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/tc_pages/ATL/24L.WILMA/ssmi/gif/f ull/Latest.html Hurricane force winds are inside the red semicircular area, tropical storm force inside the black. Forecast to pass 63 miles from Key West at the moment. The first 12 years I lived down here, there were 3 hurricanes that were noticable; Hugo, Floyd, and Andrew. In the last 7 years, there've been almost 20. Maybe it is time to leave. Monty |

Definately sick and tired of all the hurricanes. We've been lucky here in the Tampa Bay area. knock on wood!!! We are thinking about moving out of here too. It's hard to leave after being here nearly 30 years but.....I think its time. Wilma Sucks ![]() ![]() |

From what I understand hurricanes only go up to Cat 5, is there a physical limitation to the wind speeds? Could a hurricane theoretically go to Cat 6? |

Um...all you folks thinking of moving please consider North Carolina. It's wonderful, mild winters, no overabundance of snow (or ice), four delightful seasons, great BBQ, low real estate costs, still close to the beaches (and great mountains), etc. And, most importantly, a defined limited number of luthiers/repairman in our area (well, at least mine). Ya'll be careful. We're thinking about ya. |

I heard a news report yesterday that this might be the most destructive hurricane we have seen in quite some time. Just get out of its way. |

This is getting old...and wet... ![]() On a similar note...I don't think we will see an influx of dollars pouring in to help us recover either. I know people south of me who are still displaced from hurricanes a year ago. By the way I made a claim on my homeowners 3 years ago for some $1200 of deck screen damage and was immediately dropped. My new coverage, which was hard to find, more than DOUBLED my old rate. I now wish I never made that claim. Only time you should claim is when it is catastrophic...and then just hang and waite for your money. Good old insurance...biggest scam going. |

It should be ILLEGAL to drop a customer because of a claim. We all take risks, and insurance companies should pay out like the rest odf us when things go south. |
It should be ILLEGAL to drop a customer because of a claim. We all take risks, and insurance companies should pay out like the rest odf us when things go south.
They eventually are forced to...our Florida politicians got more than an ear full from the people and finnaly started handing out fines( which by the way...many ins. co. still didn't make pay outs...I guess they would rather pay the fines). What I love is the fact that the Ins. industry is allowed to guesstimate their losses and allowed to raise rates according to these "guesstimates" better still is they are allowed to claim them on their tax returns! I would love to send the IRS my tax return with a "guesstimate" of what I owe...come bail me out of jail please! |

My company tried to drop me when we had major hail damage and needed a new roof. We complained vigorously and they changed their mind, but it was a fight. |

I am like Don. It should be a crime for an Ins. co. to drop a client because of having to pay a claim. Insurance. co.'s rise a big fuss over major payout like claims form major storms. The truth is insurance is the most profitable buissness the world. and the sad part is our government have made them a required staple in this country. You must have home owners policy by law you must have auto liability by law and many others. A private industry who's service has been legislated as a requirment. Don't get me wrong insurance has paid for some issue I have had. and I was glad I had it at the time, but for an insurance co. to drop someone after they paid in for years with no return on their dollar, simply because the insurance co. lost their bet and had to pay a claim is unfair to the client. That is jut not right |
